Hibernian 1 St Mirren 2

Mark Guidi, who writes for the Sunday Mail, said on Clyde 1 that “I’d fancy Hibs to get a second goal”. Moments later, St Mirren scored. Then a very short while later, we scored again.

The scorers? Steven Thompson and Steven Thomson, which is hilarious and has prompted the chant “there’s only two Steven Thom(p)son’s”.

The highlights of the game Hibs vs St Mirren

So, a good win which puts us up to 5th place in the table. It remains to be seen if we can stay there though, as we play Celtic on Sunday.

St Mirren 1 Aberdeen 0

A brilliant advert for summer football. A cracking day, great weather, sublime pitch which would be worthy of a World Cup final and some very good football as well.

St Mirren have completely changed their image. In April Billy Reid, Hamilton manager, remarked that “everyone knows how St Mirren play, they lump the ball up to Higdon”.

Fast forward to now, the game played in July although we are in August now and everything has changed. Higdon has left and we are playing a lovely passing game which wouldn’t look out of place in Spain or Holland.

Here are the highlights of the game St Mirren vs Aberdeen Highlights

The only problem we have at the moment is putting the ball in the back of the net, only scoring once against Dunfermline and Aberdeen doesn’t inspire much confidence. Although I’m only letting that disrupt my good mood, we’re joint top of the league and the football has improved dramatically from last season.

Looking Forward to the New Season

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 2 Comments

Quality over quantity has become the mantra at St Mirren and Danny Lennon’s new signings certainly show that. Nigel Hasselbaink, Graeme Smith, Gary Teale, Steven Thompson and Graham Carey have all joined the Buddies on permanent deals for the 2011/12 season.

With Aberdeen, Hibernian, St Johnstone and Dunfermline not exactly looking in great shape, Kilmarnock, Dundee Utd and Inverness losing star players like Eremenko, Bryson, Conway, potentially Goodwillie, Odhiambo and Adam Rooney, St Mirren have an outside chance of reaching the top six.

This would be a marvellous achievement considering that our best finish since coming back to the SPL is 10th.

Aside from losing Higdon, our topscorer last season, the only downside to this pre-season has been the departure of our assistant manager Iain Jenkins. Let’s hope this doesn’t have a negative impact on the squad.

Relegation Worries Increase

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 3 Comments

St Mirren have a peculiar habit. Not of winning, play entertaining football, diving, cheating or having players sent off. It’s of making things extremely difficult for ourselves.

Take last season’s League Cup Final for instance. Rangers were down to 9 men with the score locked at nil-nil. We managed to concede, almost saying that we can still win anyway, which we didn’t.

Hamilton have looked doomedfor a long time but all of a sudden they have hit a purple patch. This means with 2 games to go, we are just 3 points ahead of them. It isn’t the worst scenario, for if we win one game we are safe, thanks to our much superior goal difference. We are away to Aberdeen tonight, then at home to St Johnstone on Saturday.

I think it is clear that the majority of the players have stopped trying, for they have either signed a new deal or are not going to be playing football for St Mirren next season.

Let’s keep the faith.

Hibs 1 St Mirren 1

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 1 Comment

Although it is mathematically possible, it is unlikely that we will go down this season. This result has done us no harm though, a good point away from home. We still have a chance of overtaking Aberdeen, perhaps even St Johnstone, which would be good for the club financially.

Hibs vs St Mirren highlights

I have to admit, the penalty we got was a bit soft. Not that you’ll catch me complaining. Next Monday is our next game, at home to Hamilton. which I am going to. Hamilton are virtually down, however they will be right up for the game and if they win it they will have a small chance. Let’s hope we stuff them.

Two Wins On The Bounce!

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 2 Comments

Plans of an open-top bus tour around Paisley are still being discussed as St Mirren have successfully won two home matches in a row against fellow strugglers Hamilton and Aberdeen.

I think what Danny Lennon, our manager, must take from these two games is that we should play two strikers, namely Dargo and Higdon. In one-and-a-half games they scored 5, us scoring 6 in total. They have a good partnership and we look like scoring when the two of them are together.

However, the jubilation is probably going to be shortlived, as we play Celtic at Celtic Park. I will be hoping though.

Hearts 3 St Mirren 2 – Merked by Rudi Skacel

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 6 Comments

I want to shoot myself in the face when I think about this result, yet another late goal conceded.

The game started with comedy as Michael Higdon missed an open net from just 5 yards. We dominated the early stages and Higdon slightly redeemed himself by scoring our fist goal. It is now hurting my soul to describe this game so I shall post the match highlights.

Hearts vs St Mirren Match Highlights

Another unfortunate defeat, which we can’t afford next weekend as we have relegation rival Hamilton at home. We need to win that one badly.

St Mirren 1 Aberdeen 1

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 1 Comment

Why can St Mirren not hold on to a lead in the 90th minute?!?! If games finished in the 80th minute then we would have at least half a dozen more points in the league and would be through to the semi final of the Scottish Cup.

It’s such a shame, we don’t stand a chance of going through against Aberdeen at Pittodrie. However for a large amount of the 2nd half, we were all over Aberdeen like a rash. We should have put the game to bed early, McLean, Higdon and Dargo all had great chances.

It’s unfortunate as it appears it could be quite a boring end to the season for us (unusually) as Hamilton are 7 points behind us and we have a game in hand.

Quick Update

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 1 Comment

St Mirren go in to March (how is it March already?) knowing some good results are needed. Hamilton got a draw against Dundee United at the weekend and are looking more likely to pick up points. We are also in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup, facing Aberdeen at home.

St Mirren defeated Motherwell 1-0 away from home last WednesdayMotherwell-St Mirren Highlights before losing 2-0 away to Kilmarnock Kimarnock vs St Mirren Highlights.

I’ll be back with an update after the Rangers match this Sunday.

St Mirren 3 Inverness 3- What A Game!

By: Lewis Orr | Comments 15 Comments

How typical. The first time you score 3 goals in a league game this season, the opposition match you. Lennon, our manager, can take several positives and negatives from this match.

Match Highlights

Defensively we need to improve but Hamilton and Hibs lost on Saturday giving us another point on the road to survival. We also have a game against Hibs on Sunday, a real crunch match.

In the quarter final of the Scottish Cup we have Aberdeen at home.
